How To Memorize The Books Of The Bible

How many have memorized whole books of the Bible.

I am not talking about a verse here and there or even a chapter, but a whole book of the Bible word-for-word. Especially if you have memorized multiple books of the Bible or the complete Bible (even better). Yes, some, though very few, have memorized the complete Bible. As for myself, I have memorized multiple…

Wow! That is a huge amount of dedication, congratulations! How old were you when you decided to do that? How did you go abouts doing it? Thats amazing!

What’s a good way to memorize the books of the bible.

I go to youth group on Wednesdays, and church on Sunday. My pastier, James, said to everyone in youth group if we can memorize the books of the bible(old and new testament) we will win a prize. Our deadline is Christmas, but i wanted to start now. I’ve never done something like this, so i felt it would be a…

memorize books of the bible.

okay, i need to memorize the books of the bible by tomorrow. i know most of them but i need to know ALL of them. in order. does anyone know a good way of memorizing them?? help!!

Yes It’s very easy once you know how to memorize them. There are a couple of songs you can listen to that say them in order. Copy this link in the address bar and they have the song on this video. ( The kids aren’t that bad, but the lamentations thing is weird.) =)

What do you think of this song on how to memorize the books of the Bible.…

I think that it’s a good mnemonic device,

Memorizing Books Of the Bible By Category.

I want to memorize the books of the bible by category, but I have a question regarding the Old Testament prophets. Is Daniel considered a Major Prophet or a Minor Prophet? In his book, “How To Study the Bible For Yourself”, Tim LaHaye categorizes him as a Major Prophet, but recently when I did a…

Daniel’s book would probably be best included in the major prophets. There are only 12 chapters, but most are fairly long. Also, he recorded some of the most startling and yet clearest pictures of the future that anyone had seen up to that point: the rise of Ptolemy, Cleopatra, Antiochus Epiphanes, and many more.I would agree with Dr. LaHaye in this regard. He is well known for his high view of Scripture, having written many books on the topic. My hunch, and that’s all it is, is that the Google list probably looked at number of chapters versus length of them.

Has anyone here memorized an entire book of the Bible.

How long did it take you? Was it hard? Which book?

Yes. It took me about seven months, and it was difficult at times. I was 16 and still juggling high school and extracurricular activities. The book I memorized was Hebrews, which is 13 [email protected] Edge spear: Back in the days before television and social networking, it was routine for people to memorize the entire Bible. George Washington had the whole thing memorized from cover to cover, as did all of the Great Awakening preachers. Richard Wurmbrand memorized the whole Bible in light of the very real possibility of being separated from it indefinitely by the state. Which is exactly what happened. The idea of memorizing the Bible in preparation for persecution is so prominent in the world today, Hollywood, of all places, made an entire movie centered around the concept (WARNING! Spoilers for the following): The Book of Eli.

How were the books of the Bible compiled.

Which person(s) ultimately decided which books to include, which books to exclude and what order to place them in? Since the books of the Bible were written over many years by many different authors, who is to say there is not a book that was initially supposed to be in the Bible but is now missing?

The Early Church Fathers who were close to followers of Jesus, decided which books had authority and which books didn’t. They decided this based on 1) the book’s association with a disciple of Jesus, or someone close to a disciple 2) how widely the book was distributed and how widely used it was in the early church community 3) the accuracy of the book — i.e. how closely it conformed with everyone’s collective understanding of Jesus’ life and message. This process began about 100 Ad, about sixty years after Jesus. But you have to understand that back then oral tradition was really strong, so the reality of Jesus was very much alive through people memorizing His sayings and accurately passing down what happened. It was not mere “stories” — in many ways the oral tradition was viewed as more accurate and more real and sacred than written texts, because in Ancient times history wasn’t seen as merely the written word. All the books you are talking about that got excluded are either available in various forms and were still used by the early church (The Didache, the letters of Clement, etc) or they were gnostic texts. Gnostics wrote a LOT later than the apostles did, and their theories and spirituality had little to do with Jesus’ real message. This was patently obvious and it was heresy, so the church fathers excluded those books. The gnostic gospels like Thomas and Peter were obviously written later and are not as accurate.I am in seminary right now studying this stuff, and I can honestly say that everything that’s in the bible is what God wants us to know. If you want to explore non-canonical texts which are still spiritually valid, check out the Didache, 1st, 2nd letters of Clement, and the writings of Justin Martyr. These are all early texts and represent the living, accurate tradition of Jesus shortly after His death and resurrection. And btw, I know many people think that the gospels were written really late, but if you actually study it and don’t listen to hearsay, you will find out that scholars have proven that all of the canonical gospels were written within the 1st century and no later than 50-60 years after Jesus. This may seem late to us in our time, but the thing is like I said back then people didn’t record history in the same way — they relied on oral tradition to accurately pass down history. Therefore the fact that these books were written that early is actually remarkable within this historical context.

How can I memorize all of the books of the bible in order.

I am taking a college prep bible study at my church and one of our assignments before thursday is to memorize all of the books of the Bible in order and I can’t figure out how to do it. Any advice?

Break the task into smaller bites. One method: there are 66 books in the Bible, so work on groups of 11 books each.Another method is to divide the books into groups according to themes:Law, Writings, Poetry, Early Prophets, Latter Prophets,Gospels and Acts, Paul, Epistles, Revelation. You’ll be rattling off all the books before you know it.

  1. In west Philadelphia born and raisedShould have started earlier. What you can do is use the first letter of each books name and create a story using those letters. Good Luck

  2. Nope. I’m glad I have a life instead.

  4. Do you have a Bible? Then the list of books is at the beginning of the Bible. You can break it down into sections to memorize such as the books of Moses, history, prayers and songs (Psalm, & Sof S), major prophets and minor prophets. Do you have a Bible that has helps and gives information? Check that out yourself.

  5. Write the first letters of the books in order and then try to remember which it is. If you get stuck, look and see. Soon you will know.i think is a waste of time to memorize words, wouldn’t be more helpful to behave ok? but is a catchy song

  6. I bet you’re a very humble person, too. This works for me in many things as I am a visual learner.

  7. Try to learn a few at a time, maybe 5. Then once you know those very well, go to the next five and say all ten in order. Go through the Bible in this way. Hope it helps.

  8. What kind of wacky school are you going to???Don’t you mean memorize the titles of the books? My church has awesome songs to help remember the books of the Bible. Here’s the links. You can listen to the song and follow along with the music.Take the first letter of each book and write it down like this:

  9. Tip 2: It might be helpful to remember how many books are in the Old Testament, the New Testament, and the entire Bible combined. This way, if you are writing down the books for a test, you can make sure you didn’t skip one.I like it. It is cute

  10. If it’s just the titles of the the books then it’s possible. I found out that memorization comes with patience. If you don’t have patience you cannot focus. Try to relax in a quiet room, and wait for your focus to submit to what you are trying to memorize. If there are too many things in your mind this will make it to hard a task. Then when you become focused take five titles at a time and repeat them either out loud or in your mind until you can recite them without having to go through the book to find the order. Do not skip to the next five until you are sure in your heart that you have memorized the first five and so on.

  11. Then there is how the Old Testament was written and compiled. There is strong evidence to suggest that it was copiled from 5 separate texts after the Babylonian exile, each with a differnet point of view.

  12. You know how it goes for music.New Testament: a mucisan it had always helped when memorizing large musical sections.Jesus is called God – John 1:1,14; 20:28; Col. 2:9; Titus 2:13; Heb. 1:8There’s the order of the Torah which is different from how the order of the books are in the Septuagint. Do you mean alphabetical order or chronological order? Are you Catholic? Because there’s the Apocrypha inserted between the OT & NT.

  13. my mom and i made up a song when i had to memorize them. i’m sure you can find a song on the internet.

  14. Tip 1: If you REALLY want to learn them well, sing along. I know it sounds stupid, but it helps alot. If you’re in public and you don’t want to look like a clown, at least read the titles of the books as you hear them in the song. With sufficient time and practise, the list will be memorized. Guaranteed.5.) poetic books …..(.job —song of solomon (songs)Now this is the story all about howThere has got to be a better way !!! I think some creative person should do that for the Apostle’s Creed and the Lord’s Prayer !!!If anything I could say that this cab was rare[DELDUP()]Having done so, myself, may I suggest my process? What a wonder full disinformation and deception campaign he waged against his Christian enemies – so good in fact that Christians are still following the deception to this day!!!

  20. Jesus is before all things – John 1:1-3; Col. 1:17;Ever since I learned these songs when I was a kid I’ve known the books so at least for me they were pretty successful. Good Luck!

  22. Jesus is worshipped – Matt. 2:2,11; 14:33; John 9:35-38; Heb. 1:6

  23. I’d look on youtube to see if there is a song that somebody put to it. That’s how I learned the New Testament, but I’m sure there’s one for the Old Testament too. Good luck! And it sounds like a good school; don’t let whining atheists get to you.Well, I can see that it might help some remember the order of the books in a particular variety of bible.

  29. Jesus said, “I AM the True Vine” – John 15:1,5Jesus is the guarantee of a better covenant – Heb. 7:22; 8:6

  30. it is used to help remember their namesThis has really helped us in our church.

  31. Who cares about memorization. As long as you understand and apply the things in the Bible that is all that matters.

  32. Example :

  33. and so was compiled by a roomful of Catholic sycophants, back in the year 300 something.

  34. there are a few songs made up for the old testament and for the new testamentI’m sure you’ve heard of the Council at Nicaea. The indications were that the books were somewhat pre-selected though. The current Bible is a subset of those as the apocrypha is not included. However it does not stop there, various other sects use different portions of the books, mostly less, but some more. Are you involved in your church? How?Ambrose began the work under the command of Constantine, who had political and military reasons for a canon. Ambrose, being a Paulist christian, made sure to emphasize books that fit into his worldview, negating many more accepted scriptures because they were preserved by arian or gnostic christian sects outside of Rome. This occured in the 3rd Century, AD.

  35. Note: I looked around youtube to try to find the song I learned the books of the Bible with, but I couldn’t find the same one. There are plenty of others though.EveryGoodBoyDeservesFavour =EGBDF7.)…minor prophets…12 of them (hosea–malachi)Jesus cleanses us from our sins by His blood – Rev. 1:5; Rom. 5:9Jesus said, “I AM the Door” – John 10:7,9Jesus always lives to make intercession for us – Heb. 7:25It was rehearsed to us when we were children at home. My mom and dad were devout Christians and trained us well in the Word of God. Learning the Books of the Bible was first priority! I’ve trained my children the same way. Devotion at home (Deuteronomy 6:5-9)

  36. jude it’s one page

  37. Don’t feel bad about your believe. I was raised as a Christian though I had alot of problems with the Bible as a child. Quite frankly I didn’t believe in it. When I got older I started researching and investigating outside souces to see if this is true. I know know it is and will tell you how…….. The Bible starts with Genesis – which in Latin means Race, Family, Kind It says that God created the universe instantaneously. Science now call that the Big Bang Theory It gives the chronological order of how life appeared on this Earth and modern science agrees. It stated thousands of years ago that the Earth was a sphere. Europeans thought the earth was flat in the not so distant past! It says that all humans are descended from two people. Known as Adam and Eve. Why those names? Because Adam literally means man and Eve literally means “mother of all living. Now with the discovery of DNA science has proven that is true. The Bible never said Adam and Eve were the only humanoids here. It just said we are the only one created by God. Satan is not a snake! He came to Eve in a humanoid form and had sex with her and mixed the bloodline. Science knows that human forms have roamed this Earth for thousands of years, but they can’t explain how our brains got so big and we got so smart all of a sudden. The Bible tells of a great flood. Science has proven this catastrophe. Sand and lake marine life found on the top of our highest mountains. Which proves that they used to be thousands of miles lower! The North Pole shifted 3000 miles. And used to be in Canada. The Great Pyramids and all other ancient monuments in ALL OTHER CONTINENTS are aligned with this old north pole. Why? Because this was their tradition for thousands of years before the catastrophe and it continued after. It speaks of giants in the earth. Do a google search of the giant human skeletons they found around the world 12 feet or more! In the thousandsss of years since its been written, (the bible is a compulation of books) not ONE THING HAS EVER BEEN DISPROVEN! If anything it is consistently proven to be true with each new developement. If you read the bible as an informational book you will see that all life’s answers are there. The problem is people don’t like the reality of it. God, Angels, Devil, Demon they are all entities that are not of this world. Aliens, extraterrestrial. People don’t get alarmed all this means is that they are not of this planet. One powerful alien created man. Another alien created other life forms on earth. God told his creation don’t have sex with those creatures even though they look like you they are not the same The devil in human form sexually seduced Eve, She put Adam on and they had children. But the problem came in when Eve got pregnant by the devil. Now her pure dna was mixed with his impure dna. That is why we cant achieve perfect, it is in our dna. Genesis Chapter 6 starts with the fact that the “sons of God” has sex with human women. They had babies. Giants. We have found there bones and look it up if you don’t believe me, there dwellings as well with 25 foot beds!!!!! All through the Bible it speaks of Angels coming down from the heavens. People still report this but we call them aliens now. Look at Ancient people and I do mean ancient cave painting, rock carvings of aliens? They are found all over the world. The Bible gives a reason there are different races on this earth. They didn’t all spring from some black person in Africa. That is the biggest myth in the world. Some of us are the result of Alien Blood and human blood. Some of us are a result of inbreeding. Look at the story where two sisters had babies by their father after the fall of Sodom and Gomorrah. I think I know who those modern descendants are! I don’t want to offend. But it is science. Y Haplogroup DNA chart traces genetic mutations. Modern science tell us that the baby of close relatives can have problems. Genetic mutations. Don’t you hate that! Now the question is how did it mutate. Back to the Bible. Aliens, Mutations, and some are just other life forms created by a different entity that created me. Every prophecy of an Ancient Civilizations fate has come true. We know that Sodom and Gomorrah happened even if we don’t know the reason for it. Research the Satelite Image of the believed Ark in the mountain of Ararat under the ice. Global warming is causing the ice to melt I am sure more of the bible will be proven.

  38. Did you know, the most popular Gospel in the 3rd Century was not Matthew, Mark, Luke or John, but Peter, a Gospel that did not make the cut, because it said Jesus rose straight from the Grave and didn’t return for 40 days. While Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were none of them Apostles, Acts and the Gospel of Peter were the two most read scriptures by the 3rd Century.

  39. To sit on my throne as the prince of Bel-air

  40. 4.) ezra, nehemiah, esther1.) TORAH…first 5 booksAnd all shooting some b-ball outside of the schoolDaniel, as a pseudopigriphical work rather than a book of prophecy, is put in the writings.

  41. Jesus said, “I AM the Bread of Life” – John 6:35,41,48,51Jesus is with us always – Matt. 28:20Sure, it’s the 1990’s Bible to Being a Rad MuthaWhen a couple of guys, they were up to no goodWhat we know as the “canonized” bible was not assembled in anything like it’s present form until the end of the 4th century by a council of bishops (although it was still debated for centuries after). They chose which books should be included in the bible, which books were inspired by God, by vote, just as we might vote on a law. (Can you imagine that some books missed out on being The Word of God by one vote?) Were they any more qualified to judge which books were divine than anyone living today? Is their judgement and knowledge any better than ours?Recite them in parts and do it to a song or music. Make up a tune or a beat and you will get it.And said “You’re moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel-air”Jesus is the image of the invisible God – Heb. 1:3

  42. The books of the bible were writings sought after and the Emperor of Rome Constantine payed to have many scholars separate the books to be included and burn the rest. It was his final decision which ones stayed in because he was paying for it. That is what I have read. Now there were many books not included because they were hidden or not available. One such book which is parallel with the 4 Gospels is the Book of thomas which was found in Egypt not til recently. Another collection of books found in Egypt is called the Nag Hamidi and there are Codex writings being revealed. What our bible today represents are the books of what our American fore Fathers have passed down. Some have been eliminated like the Apocrypha that was included and removed by the Protestants when the King James bible was made.Anyway, try this:

  43. jesus was just a fairytale myth

  44. 6.)…..Major prophets…(Isaiah –daniel)E, for exodusTwinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. Srsly.

  45. There are books mentioned in the New Testament that are “lost.” For example, 1st Corinthians is actually 2nd Corinthians as St. Paul said, “I wrote to you in an epistle, not to keep company with fornicators.” in 1 Corinthians 5:9. Also, the Epistle of the Laodicceans is missing, “And when this epistle shall have been read with you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans: and that you read that which is of the Laodiceans.”(Colossians 4:16 )

  46. bless you.

  47. Edit: correction on the time”end of 4th century” not the 3rd century – thanks Jim!

  48. 1.) gospels (mathew—acts) remember that acts was authored by luke.On the playground where I spent most of my daysI memorize things best when I use words with melodies. Just like how we learn the alphabet when we are kids. Melodies help alot. Make up your own bible name song and record your voice singing it, then go ahead and practice. It may work.

  49. Not deriding you for memorizing, but WHY are you doing it? Are you doing, as it seems to me, to say SEE WHAT I DID? LOOK AT ME! YOU CAN’T DO THIS.Jesus said, “I AM the Resurrection and the Life” – John 11:25

  50. The Bible was Put Together by VoteIt’s not memorizing the bible, But how many have understood the bible. There is a Very Big difference

  51. 4.)…1-2 peter, 1-2-3 john , jude , revelation.Jesus is eternal – John 1:1,14; 8:58; Micah 5:1-2And I’d like to take a minute just sit right thereJesus said, “I AM the Way the Truth and The Life” – John 14:6Not one word of it is contemporary with the period and was not written until many years after the period the story is set in!!N, for numbersThe books were composed in the fact that they were all harmonious with each other, as in they all refer to one another, and share the same principles without contradiction. The “other” books like Mary, Maccabees, ect. are not considered canon b/c they cannot be verified truthful, and the oldest manuscripts are not old at all.

  52. Good luck.

  53. Work out some mnemonic device. For example the first letter of the name of each book put into a phrase or something like that.Jesus claimed to be God – John 8:24; 8:56-59 (see Exodus 3:14); John 10:30-33

  54. First, list the Books, ordinally, ie, Geneis is one, Deuteronomy is five, etc.[/DELDUP]Looked at my kingdom I was finally there

  55. hope this helps.I got in one little fight and my mom got scaredSearch youtube for something like “Books of the Bible song”. Find a catchy song and before long you won’t be able to forget the books even if you wanted to.Memorizing the books of the Bible “In Order” (Whose order? Jews? Catholics? Protestants? Greek Orthodox?) is a sterile activity. I hope you can find a more worthwhile Bible study you can attend. Your time has value; Whoever is running this Bible Study does not respect the value of your time.

  56. Jesus is our only mediator between God and ourselves – 1 Tim. 2:5thats awesome, too bad they don’t teach that in school

  57. Jesus said, “I AM the Good Shepherd” – John 10:11,14Jesus forgives sins – Matt. 9:1-7; Luke 5:20; 7:48here are videos from youtube on how to do it

  58. This is actually not open to interpretation…its history, its fact. In the 600s the Pope held a council (the name escapes me) and determined the books of the Bible. This same compilation is still used by Catholics today. However during the 1500s and the Reformation many books were lost in transition to the protestant Bible (ie King James version). I find it ironic that Protestants trust only the Bible- not the Pope, when it was the Pope that compiled the Bible! If you are searching for proof between the two versions of the Bible, find a Bible with the Book of Wisdom and the Book of Tobit in the OT. If they are present, you’re holding a Catholic Bible. If they are missing, its a Protrestant reformed Bible.

  59. 23 scholars got together and decided what was to be included there.L, for leviticusGood luck!

  60. Are you spreading God’s Word? How?

  61. Hope this help 🙂

  62. 2.) …Romans –2 timothy ( 11 of them )I whistled for a cab and when it came near theWell… I got that “Jesus wept” verse down cold!!

  63. There is no one size fits all. The song was the best for me as a child. We used it in Sunday School as a group exercise. Some folks like to memorize while walking, it gets you isolated and away from the noise. Braking it down in sections is also a very good method, because that requires a little bit of studying the Bible. Once you become familiar with the structure and have them in their proper place, it starts to make sense. Besides your brain is nothing but a big old file cabinet and it is nice to have the proper storage bin for each section. Although the memorizing during my youth worked well, it faded as i attended Churches that did not use it during the service or recommend studying it on your own. The Apostle Paul sure recommends it. So fine a Church or Pastor that uses the Bible during service and study it on a regular basis. We have some great study aids in online downloadable programs, i like E-Sword, but there are several. Download it to your computer and study it when you need a break during the day, in the evening before bedtime and in the morning to start your day. I promise you will not forget the Books of the Bible and your Spiritual life will grow.

  64. 2.) joshua, judges, ruthI’ll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-airI’d rather memorize useful information from better books.

  66. But, from a musical standpoint: ugh! (Why is 2 Samuel “for free”? I guess were just paying for all of the others…)Jesus abides forever – Heb. 7:24With the list before you, start with Genesis, add Exodus, and continue adding, as you are able to recall the order.I use to know the song as well as the one for the new testament.

  67. Jesus cleanses from sin – 1 John 1:9Started making trouble in my neighbourhood

  68. for example.

  69. (Believer since 1964, Bible teacher since 1988..those are my credentials)

  70. bible is crazy, but have fun doing it.

  71. I pulled up to a house about seven or eightThe Roman Emperor Constantine produced the bible and he was a pagan not god!!! He also organized Christianity into the Holly Roman Catholic Church!! Not in Israel or any of the countries of supposed origin but entirely Italian!!Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool

  72. Satan knows the Bible inside and out, too.

  73. put them in clusters.Music!License plate said “fresh” and had a dice in the mirrorPut them in any groups big or small that works for you…..good luck
